Apple iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6s: Should you upgrade?

Apple released the much-anticipated iPhone 7 on September 7. The newly released iPhone features a 4.7-inch retina display with a redesigned home button. Moreover, the iPhone 7 Plus is also equipped with a 12MP dual-camera setup. The iPhone 6s also features cutting-edge features with both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants. However, there are differences between iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s. After reading this article, you will be in a position to know whether to upgrade your iPhone 6s to iPhone 7 or not.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6s: Display

If you look at the display size, both iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s features a 4.7-inch LED-backlit widescreen IPS (1334×750, 326PPI, 1400:1) display. The main attraction of iPhone 7 is the increased brightness of 625cd/m2. In iPhone 6s, the brightness levels are 500 cd/m2. Hence, the new iPhone will be comparatively brighter than the previous counterparts. Apple has retained common features such as dual-domain pixels, fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating, display zoom and reachability.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6s: Performance

The biggest change in iPhone 7 is the integration of 64-bit A10 Fusion chip paired with M10 motion coprocessor. If you look at iPhone6s, you have a 64-bit A9 processor alongside M9 motion coprocessor. Hence, you can not only expect enhanced performance but also cooler operations.

The new iPhone is available in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities. An interesting point to note is that Apple has eliminated the 16GB and introduced new 32GB for both the new iPhone and iPhone6s. In India, you can still buy 16GB iPhone 6s till stocks last. Furthermore, the new iPhone comes with water-resistance feature including spill, splash and dust resistant capabilities.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6s: Camera

The main attraction of iPhone 7 is the addition of optical image stabilization (OIS). Previously, this feature was made available only in iPhone 6s Plus. If you buy the new iPhone, you will be able to capture shots even if you shake your handset.

The latest iPhone offers the same 12MP rear camera with a f/1.8 aperture as in iPhone 6s. Moreover, the iPhone 7 is equipped with a six-element lens, quad-LED true tone flash, and up to 63-megapixels panorama.

The newly introduced iPhone has an improved front-facing snapper with 7MP sensor with support for FHD recording and f/2.2 aperture. However, the iPhone 6s offers a 5MP sensor with HD recording support paired with the same aperture levels as iPhone 7.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6s: Battery

According to Apple, the iPhone 7 is designed in such a way to deliver up to 2 hours of long battery life than iPhone 6s. Even though both models have the capability to deliver a talk time of over 14 hours on 3G, the main variation is in the consumption of 3G data. It offers 12 hours backup when compared to 10 hours in iPhone 6s.

The new iPhone comes with full blown iOS 10. Even though iPhone6s ships with iOS9, you will be able to upgrade the handset to iOS 10. Furthermore, the fingerprint sensor is embedded into the physical home button for both iPhone 7 and iPhone 6s.

iPhone 7 vs iPhone 6s: Pricing

In India, the iPhone 6s is available from Rs. 46,000, which varies depending on the color. Apple hasn’t released the recently released iPhone in India. Hence, we don’t have the official price. In the US, the iPhone 7 is priced at Rs. 43000. If you go by this trend, you can expect the price of Rs. 60,000 for the base 32GB iPhone 7 model.

Verdict

The new iPhone has enhanced brightness, improved camera features and better battery backup time. It also offers an improved front-facing camera. Moreover, you have 32GB of storage space than the crappy iPhone 6s. Based on these factors, you should ideally upgrade to iPhone 7 if you currently own iPhone 6s. If Apple can provide an exchange offer, the cost of the iPhone will be reduced to some extent. You should check out Flipkart during the Big Billion Days in October for any possible exchange offer. An upgrade to iPhone 7 will be beneficial on all fronts.
