iPhone 4 users need to upgrade as Apple is making it obsolete by month end

Apple will ditch iPhone 4 and late 2010 MacBook Air from October 31. According to a report published on Japanese website Mac Otakara, the Cupertino-based tech giant will shelve iPhone 4 models, MacBook Air released in late 2010, third-generation AirPort Extreme, and mid-2009 AirPort Time Capsule. These products will be added to the category of vintage and obsolete list from October 31.

According to Apple, vintage products are those that have not been manufactured for more than five years but less than seven years ago. However, obsolete means those products that are discontinued more than seven years ago. The above-mentioned products are released between 2009 and 2010.

Apple products under vintage lists are not eligible for service

Once an Apple product has been added to the vintage and obsolete list, you will not be able to eligible for hardware service. However, you will be eligible for services provided if you fall under exceptions. You should not purchase the gadgets included in the vintage and obsolete lists because you will not get any updates or support in the upcoming future.

Apple vintage product list likely to be extended to other countries

Although the report consisting of Apple’s vintage and obsolete products are applicable only for Japan, the latest additions will be extended to the United States, Australia, and Canada. Moreover, you can also expect the list to be made applicable for India and other European countries.

In September 2016, Apple had obsoleted CDMA models of the iPhone 4 around the world. Moreover, the company also scrapped the late 2010 MacBook Air, the mid-2009 iMac, 2010 Mac mini, and mid-2010 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro.

The recently released macOS Sierra will be compatible with the MacBook Air released in late 2010. However, the iPhone 4 cannot be updated beyond iOS 7.1.2. You can easily identify your MacBook Air and iPhone models by visiting the relevant Apple support page.

If you look at the currently available MacBook Air, the notebook has not been updated since last one and a half years. You can expect the launch of new MacBook Air with OLED touch bar and USB-C ports by the end of November 2016.
