Design and Display

The Intex Infie 33 has an all plastic finish which is to be expected at the Rs. 5,000 mark. The build seems sturdy with quality plastic used all over. Taking about the physical overview, you get a 5.34-inch LCD display with the latest 18:9 aspect ratio. The power and volume buttons are placed on the right side, while the SIM and microSD card tray is on the left. On the top the front camera is assisted with a soft LED flash along with the earpiece and sensors. The bottom of the phone features the micro-USB charging port along with the 3.5mm audio jack. On the back you would find the rear 5-megapixel camera along with the flash.

Talking about the display, the display tech used here is LCD. The 5.34-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display has a resolution of 480 x 940 pixels. The display gets fairly bright and outdoor legibility is above average. The Infie 33 comes in Black, Blue, and Champagne color options and we have the Black color variant with us.

Performance, Software and Camera

The Infie 33 is powered by a 1.3Ghz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM and 8GB of onboard storage. The phone runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box which is a led down. Hampering the experience further is the custom skin that Intex is using on top of Android. There are a bunch of pre-installed apps like Databack, Newspoint, IndiGamez which can be uninstalled. The UI is lag free for the most part but as soon as you start multitasking you realise the lack of free RAM.

Instead of going with the full Android apps we feel like Intex should have used Android Go apps here for a better experience. Apart from this there are a few UI tweaks that can be useful to the users like the App Freezer, Face Unlock, App Clone. Face Unlock works half of the time and intex is probably using the one that is by default baked into the Android system.

Coming to the camera, there a bunch of features here like the ‘Face Beauty’ for face tuned selfies, Time lapse, ‘Face Cute’ feature to process images at the time of recording videos or live chats. Intex has equipped this smartphone with 5-megapixel camera both on the front and back. The camera quality of both the sensors is below average.

Powerwise, the Infie 33 sports a 3,000mAh battery which easily gives you a full day worth of run-cycle with about 40% charge still left.

Verdict – Should you go for it?

The Intex Infie 33 provides a bigger battery and newer trendy displays at a very affordable price point for the entry level smartphone buyer but does things wrong with the lack of RAM and the lagging UI. At the time of launch Intex along with the Infie 33 launched the Android Go powered Infie 3 which in our opinion is a good buy considering the price and features.

If you are in the market for your first smartphone purchase, then you should definitely look towards products from brands like Itel and Xiaomi’s Redmi 5A which is starts at INR 5,999 and provides you with double the RAM and storage along with decent cameras.
