Asus has launched the much-awaited the Project Tango-enabled Asus ZenFone AR and photo-centric ZenFone 3 Zoom at CES 2017 in Las Vegas, United States. While ZenFone AR is the first smartphone to provide support for Tango and Daydream, the ZenFone 3 Zoom ships with a dual-camera mechanism coupled with a 5000mAh battery.
During the launch event, Asus revealed that the company had worked very closely with Google to ensure compatibility with both Tango and Daydream Virtual Reality platforms. According to company sources, the ZenFone AR will prove to be an excellent phone for enthusiasts because of integration of two different platforms into one unit.
Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom Specifications
Along with ZenFone AR, Asus also launched ZenFone 3 Zoom, which is mainly oriented for photography enthusiasts. Manufactured using thin aluminum body, the smartphone gets power from the integrated 5000mAh battery.
Talking about specifications, the Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom features a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protected display, Snapdragon 625 processor loaded with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. As of this writing, we don’t have any confirmation about the RAM and storage capacities. The disappointing factor is the integration of Android Marshmallow instead of Android 7.0 Nougat.
On the optics front, the ZenFone 3 Zoom is equipped with a dual-camera setup with two 12MP Sony IMX362 sensors on the rear. The camera offers an ability of 2.3x optical zoom paired with 25mm wide-angle lens. The selfie freaks can enjoy since the phone comes with a 13MP sensor.
While the ZenFone 3 Zoom will be available for sale in February 2017, you will be able to buy ZenFone AR in Q2 2017. The real suspense is the price, which Asus will reveal during the estimated time of the availability of the respective phones.
Asus ZenFone AR specifications
On the specifications front, the ZenFone AR features a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Since the resolution of the display is high, you will be able to enjoy awesome viewing experience in virtual reality. Moreover, you can read more content in a small display area.
Under the hood, the ZenFone AR features a Snapdragon 821 processor and 8GB RAM loaded with Android 7.0 Nougat. Even though Qualcomm has announced the launch of Snapdragon 835 at the CES 2017, Asus added that the Snapdragon 821 is also equally brilliant in delivering rich and compelling AR and VR experiences.
Asus ZenFone AR features three cameras
As mentioned above, the ZenFone AR is a Google Tango-ready smartphone. Hence, the phone is equipped with three cameras. The primary camera offers 23MP Sony IMX 318 sensor with support for OIS and 4K video recording. However, the other two camera sensors are oriented for motion-tracking and depth sensing. The handset provides a capability to react to each and every movement of a user precisely.
When it comes to sounding segment, the Asus ZenFone AR is equipped with five magnet speakers located externally. The speakers provide support for Hi-Res audio and DTS virtual surround sound.
