Twenty years since the last production of the BMW 8 series, spy shots have released suggesting that it may come back as a luxury GT. There have been images of concepts suggesting the same. The company, on the other hand, has denied any such talks.
Almost like the BMW 5 and BMW 6 series are related, the BMW 8 series will build upon the BMW 7 series. It will be up against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. The engine prowess is still unclear, as the company has not decided which of its turbocharged engines it is going to use for its M850 (or M8).
The camouflage
The typically camouflaged body reveals little apart from the trademark front grille. The roofline slants back a long way up the rear. The upper-rear silhouette isn’t quite as much as the Royce Wraith, but more than a Bimmer generally cares to do.
BMW 8 Series Features
A picture reveals a hint of backseats. However, there’s no telling how much space there will be for the rear seaters. The camouflage does a good job hiding the details, the slight hint of tail-lights suggest that they are testing units. A lot of the design is similar to that of the current BMW 7 series, including the exhaust rim.
So far it is unclear as to what stage the car is right now. This could well be a mid-designing stage testing or the last stage of testing before the final design is ready. Regardless, an official announcement before the end of the year seems to be on the cards.
The battle between Mercedes-Benz and Bimmers has been perennially active, and the Germans are virtually at each other’s throats when it comes to competition. In light of this fact, it would not be wrong to expect the next Bimmer to be just as good as the Benz S-Class Coupe, if not better.
