Apple Watch 2 release likely on September 7, image leak reveals bigger battery

Apple Watch 2 release

Apple has started sending out media invites for an event on September 7 where we are expecting to see iPhone 7 and 7 Plus launch. The Apple Watch 2 release is highly likely at the event and as per rumors, Apple Watch 2 will sport an increased battery capacity. A fresh set of images has just been leaked on Weibo which appears to be the battery cell of the upcoming wearable. The photos uploaded to the Chinese microblogging website reportedly features a total capacity of 334mAh. This is presumed to be powering the 42 mm model of the Apple Watch 2. Considering the present generation 42 mm Apple Watch has a 246mAh battery, it indicates that the forthcoming smartwatch will come with more than 35 percent larger battery.

Apple Watch 2 release and price rumors

While the larger battery does suggest increased battery back-up, it depends on a lot of other factors. The current Apple smartwatch has a respectable battery life, and if fully charged, it can easily run for an entire day. With the bigger battery of the Apple Watch 2, it may last for two whole days without the need to be connected to a charging point.

The information is only for the 42 mm size of the smartwatch. Till now, there is no info regarding the 38 mm variant which currently sports a 205mAh battery. But going by the facts and rumors, it will also come with a larger cell and offer identical battery life improvements to its bigger sibling.

Apple Watch 2 Release expected next month with iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

Apple is expected to announce the upcoming Apple Watch 2 in the next month alongside the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. There have been several rumors about the forthcoming smartwatch which several improvements over the present generation watches.

The upcoming wearable is speculated to be powered by an improved SoC manufactured by TSMC. Presumably named as the Apple S2, it is rumored to implement the ARM’s new generation Cortex A32 CPU architecture.

Apple Watch 2 Features: 4G LTE, bigger battery

Analysts suggest that Apple may also upgrade the RAM and storage of the Apple Watch 2. The smartwatch which currently features 512 MB of RAM and 8 GB of storage space, is expected to sport 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of inbuilt storage.

The rumored smartwatch is presumed to come with a handful of features like built-in 4G LTE support, barometer, GPS and enhanced waterproofing. Although the 4G LTE part was heavily rumored in the beginning, recent sources claim that Apple might not add the additional cellular modem into its wearable.

In spite of the beefed up battery and bumped up specifications, the Apple Watch 2 is expected to be thinner than its present generation. Apple will achieve this by integrating a slimmer display panel into the upcoming smartwatch.
