After cementing its place in Social networking and Messaging platform across the globe, Facebook is now ready to launch its video platform app Watch for Facebook to compete with the giants like YouTube, Amazon, and Netflix. The Watch will provide the platform for all creators and publishers to find an audience and to build a community of passionate fans with earning money at the same time.
The app home screen is categorized with options like “Todays Spotlight,” “News this Week,” “Most Talked About,” “What friends are watching” and Coming Soon. From these options, users can
- Discover new shows to enjoy with friends.
- Find episodes based on what their friends are watching and whats popular.
- Create the watch list under which users can navigate through the following section in which user can see the video along with texting and following them.
- Saved videos for future viewing.
Commenting on the launch, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg wrote: “Watching a show doesn’t have to be passive. It can be a chance to share an experience and bring people together who care about the same things. That’s why today we’re launching the Watch tab in Facebook a place where you can discover shows your friends are watching and follow your favorite shows and creators, so you don’t miss any episodes. You’ll be able to chat and connect with people during an episode and join groups with people who like the same shows afterward to build community”.
Director of Products, Daniel Danker wrote: “Watching a video on Facebook has the incredible power to connect people, spark conversation, and foster community. On Facebook, videos are discovered through friends and bring communities together. As more and more people enjoy this experience, we’ve learned that people like the serendipity of discovering videos in News Feed, but they also want a dedicated place they can go to watch videos. That’s why last year we launched the Video tab in the U.S., which offered a predictable place to find videos on Facebook. Now we want to make it even easier to catch up with shows you love”.
