After introducing the feature in countries like US, UK and others, Apple has rolled out two-step verification process for India and 47 other countries. The move is intended to keep hackers at an arm’s length and ensure protection for Apple customers at all times.
For enabling the Apple two-step verification feature, users need to go to the Password and Security tab. Users will have to register one or more trusted devices following which they’ll get a 4-digit code via SMS or Find My iPhone app(if installed). As an additional step, users will also not need to answer security questions when they set up a new Apple device using their Apple ID. Upon completion, users shall receive a 14-character Recovery Key for safekeeping once they set up two-step verification. The Recovery Key is issued to regain access to account should a user lose access to trusted devices or forget his password.
Apple Rolls Out Two-Step Verification feature for India
It is particularly important to mention here that the 2-step verification can be turned off. However, if a user loses the recovery key as well as the trusted devices and password, he will be permanently locked out of that particular Apple account. Also, note that Apple will not allow to setup two-step verification if significant changes were recently made to the Apple ID account information including a password reset or new security questions. Under such circumstances, user will be requested to wait for some time.
Other countries getting the two-step verification feature apart from India, include Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Finland, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Philippines, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, etc.
Launched in the first quarter of 2013, two-step verification is designed to provide Apple users with an additional layer of protection through the use of a trusted device and a security code for their Apple IDs.
