After creating so many controversies in the technological sector, the legal battle between Xiaomi and Ericsson has come to an end. The Delhi High Court, yesterday allowed Xiaomi to send back its Redmi Note 3G handsets whose sale has been banned in India owing to a patent dispute with Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson.
A vacation bench of Justice Mukta Gupta finalized this judgment, and he granted permission to Xiaomi to return more than 1,00,000 3G handsets to Hong Kong.
The Court also asked Xiaomi to maintain a proper inventory with Flipkart to analyze the number of unsold phones.
Xiaomi can sell other devices in India apart from the ones which feature a Media Tek chipset. From now, Xiaomi phones which work on Qualcomm chipset will be available for the customers in India.
Redmi 1S, Mi 3, Mi 4 and Mi 4i are fitted with Qualcomm chips, and these are also very popular brands of Xiaomi.
Earlier in December 2014, the Delhi High Court had asked Xiaomi to stop selling all their mobile phones. But later, Xiaomi filed a plea and proved that they are using the Media Tek chip only in Redmi 3G phones.
Ericsson has agreed to the decision of returning the banned 3G phones to Hong Kong, and this is expected to bring an end to the legal battle between these two smartphone giants.
