WhatsApp ends support for older iPhones, Android and Windows phone

WhatsApp has stopped working on older iPhones, Android smartphones as well Windows Phones. The move is not sudden as the company earlier asked users to upgrade if they wish to enjoy services. The messaging services informed about ending services on older phones because of security issues and implement new features.

So if you are working why WhatsApp is not working on your handset, then the services might have stopped for your device. Here’s the list of smartphones on WhatsApp won’t work:

  • Android smartphones running 2.1/2.2
  • iOS 6 and iPhone 3GS
  • Windows phone running Win 7

Meanwhile, Nokia and BlackBerry users have been kept out of this list but they also need to upgrade by June end this year. The company stated in its blog post that they are extending support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 until June 30, 2017.

Unlike earlier when there are hardly any updates and new features added to the app, WhatsApp is now working rigrously to keep its app updated with new features. It is giving stiff competition to Skype, Viber and other real time messaging apps that gained prominance while WhatsApp was quite. Lately, it added end-to-end encryption feature, video calling feature and made few more additions. It is soon expected to add edit message and revoke message features as per the latest rumors.
