Satya Nadella as Front-runner for Microsoft Top Post
India-born Satya Nadella is seen as the front-runner in the competition as per the opinions of people with the knowledge of the matter. Other members considered for the post and the possible replacement for Ballmer include, Tony Bates (director of Skype and now executive vice president of business development and strategy), Qi Lu and Terry Myerson.
Steve Ballmer’s retirement leaves the software giant in a leadership crisis, amid the slump in the PC buy and use. Nadella, 44, before joining Microsoft in 1992, where he initially worked as the senior vice president of R&D for the Online Services Division and vice president of the Microsoft Business Division, worked with Sun Microsystems as a member of the technology staff.
The man also figures on the New York Times’ list of current Microsoft executives who could be contenders besides Tony Bates. He holds a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the Manipal Institute of Technology.
