NVIDIA has unveiled Pascal architecture-based GeForce GTX 1060 at $249, just two months after the release of GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. Capable of delivering cutting-edge speed and optimized for performance per watt, the GTX 1060 has been manufactured based on the FinFET 16nm process.
The graphics card consumes only 120 watts of power and is capable of playing high-end VR and DirectX 11/12 PC games at blistering speeds. Moreover, the GTX 1060 graphics card can deliver GTX 980 level performance and will be able to work efficiency by consuming less power in VR.
Featuring 1280 CUDA cores and 6GB of GDDR5 memory running at 8Gbps, the GTX 1060 will work at a base speed of 1.7GHz. However, it can be overclocked up to 2GHz for enhanced performance. When compared with all other competing graphics cards running at same clock speed, the GTX 1060 is 15 percent faster and 75 percent power efficient.
With support for NVIDIA VRWorks, the GTX 1060 enable developers to experience what users view, heat and touch with the physical behavior of the virtual environment. According to reports, more than 30 titles such as Unreal Tournament, Poolnation VR, Everest VR, Obduction, Adr1ft, Raw Data, Unreal Engine and Unity are in active development for the newly released graphics card.
The GTX 1060 also provides support for NVIDIA Simultaneous Multi-Projection technology, included with VRWorks to seamlessly beam a single image simultaneously to both eyes. This feature provides a 3x VR graphics performance enhancement over the previous counterparts. Moreover, the GX 1060 enable users to play latest VR games with a high level of detail without sacrificing performance or quality. As a user, you will be able to feel a realistic and immersive experience.
If you buy GTX 1060, you will be able to play ‘Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst’ and ‘Witcher 3’, since the graphics card provide support for NVIDIA Ansel technology, which enables gamers to explore, capture and share the various modes of gaming as per their wish.
With Ansel, gamers will be able to compose the gameplay shot they desire, by pointing the camera in any direction and capturing 360-degree stereo prototypes for viewing within a VR headset or Google Cardboard.
Developed on Epic Games Unreal Engine 4, the VR Funhouse free carnival game will also work with GTX 1060 in addition to GTX 1080 and 1070 graphics cards. NVidia will throw open the source code for free to developers to enable them to create their VR Funhouse attractions.
