Nintendo Switch: Price leak, Release Date, and other news

A new report indicates that the much anticipated Nintendo Switch is expected to be priced under-$250. According to Japanese publication Nikkei, the upcoming Nintendo console is expected to sell around ¥25,000 in Japan — which going by today’s exchange rate nearly amounts to $215.

Japanese newspaper Nikkie has a rather reliable track with Nintendo leaks in the past. In the past, Nikkie was pretty close to revealing launch price of Wii U, and also correctly revealed key features of the Nintendo 3DS. Its also worth noting that Nikkie report makes it clear that Ninetndo Switch price mentioned above is not the exact figure, as it is more of an average figure that gamers can expect.

It’s also worth pointing out that even if Nikkie’s tentative prices turn out to be correct, there is a possibility that international prices won’t be entirely based on exchange rates. To recall the Wii U was launched in Japan for ¥26,250 and sold in the US at 299.99, which was quite above the exchange rate that time. That being said, it’s highly likely that the Nintendo Switch will sell around $250 which is still very pocket-friendly compared to the likes of the PS4 and Xbox One.

Nintendo Switch: Release Date and other details

Nintendo has already confirmed its plans to unveil the Nintendo Switch at an exclusive hands-on event on January 12. The event will also be live streamed for everyone. The Japanese gaming giant has also revealed the exact timings of the event where it’ll reveal Nintendo Switch Release Date and price. The live stream starts at 8 pm PT/11pm ET on January 12.

Not to forget, there’s also a Nintendo Treehouse broadcast followed by Nintendo Switch reveal on January 13, where the company will provide more details about the console’s launch-lineup. The show will build upon the reveal event where developers are expected to come together to showcase hands-on demos of the console’s upcoming titles. Hence, expect a new The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gameplay demo at the event.

Nintendo has been rather adept at carefully guarding the upcoming console’s secret, keeping all the details under wraps. Though with its official unveiling planned for later this week, gamers now won’t have to wait that long to learn more about the mystery console. The speculated pricing along with other details such as a release date and hardware specifications should finally be announced at the upcoming webcast on January 12. While past reports suggest that the Nintendo Switch is scheduled for a launch in March 2017.
