German automobile giant Audi on Thursday launched its new Audi A4 sedan in India starting at Rs. 38.1 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The new Audi A4 features several technological upgrades compared to its outgoing model and also offers a much spacier cabin.
The company has only launched the 1.4-litre TFSI petrol variant in India, as car manufacturers across the country are facing the aftermath of the recent diesel ban. Coming back to the engine, the new 1.4-litre TFSI motor churns out 148bhp of peak output and 250Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automated transmission and features a front-wheel drive system. The company touts the new Audi A4’s fuel efficiency at 17.84 kmpl.
Audi A4 Features
According to Audi, the new A4 is the most aerodynamic A4 ever. As it is around 120 kgs lighter than its predecessor, which is primarily the reason for the impressive fuel efficiency. The car can reach a top speed of 210 kmph and zips from 0-100 kmph in just 8.4 seconds.
The exteriors of the new Audi A4 feature a revamped hexagonal front grille and L -shaped headlamps with split Daytime Running Lights. While not much has changed on the rear, but you do get to see slight design tweaks along with new LED tail lamps.
Besides, even the interiors get several upgrades which include the company’s proprietary ‘Virtual Cockpit’ technology replacing the standard instrument cluster. The new Audi A4 essentially gets two displays – one acts as the infotainment system while the other as Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster housed right behind the steering wheel.
In terms of dimensions, the new Audi A4 measures 4,726mm in length, 1,842mm in width and 1,427mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,820mm. Compared to the outgoing model, the new generation Audi A4 is 25mm longer, 16mm wider, and has a 12mm longer wheelbase.
Despite the increase in dimensions, Audi has managed to reduce the overall kerb weight of the car. The shoulder width and headroom for the driver and the front-seat passenger has been increased by 11mm and 24mm respectively, while the interior length and rear legroom have been increased by 17mm and 23mm respectively. The new Audi A4 will rival the likes of Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series, and the Volvo S60.
