Moto Z modular smartphone coming in India on October 4: Things you should know

Lenovo will launch the Moto Z modular smartphone in India in the first week of October 4. The smartphone was globally unveiled back in June. The main highlight of the Moto Z is its ability to attach a set of accessories, called as mods, which essentially gives the phone added functionality.

The Moto Z is expected to be priced over Rs. 20,000, while the ‘mods’ may be available starting Rs. 3,300 and onwards. Swapping modules can be attached to the back of the device using 16 magnetic pins.

Motorola Moto Z Specifications

In terms of specifications, the Moto Z packs a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display. Powering the smartphone is a Snapdragon 820 processor bundled with 4GB of RAM and 32/64GB of built-in storage. Camera options include a 13MP primary camera with laser autofocus, OIS, and dual-tone LED flash. While on the front, there’s a 5MP selfie cam with LED flash along with a wide angle lens.

The smartphone also gets a fingerprint sensor on the front and comes with a water resistant coating. Besides, there’s no 3.5mm jack as it gets the latest USB Type-C connectivity. That said, it’ll come bundled with a 3.5mm to USB Type-C connector. The smartphone also packs a 2,600mAh battery.

Motorola Moto Z Force Specifications

Besides, the company is also expected to launch the Moto Z Force, which is essentially a shatter-proof version of the Moto Z. It features a 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display which the company guarantees doesn’t crack in case of accidental drops. Most of the other specs remain similar to the Moto Z, besides that its primary camera unit gets a higher megapixeL count with 21MP rear camera sensor. In addition, it also features a slightly beefier 3,500 mAh battery.

Meanwhile, the modular accessories announced at launch include a JBL Soundboost speaker, Insta-Share projector along with the Incipio-designed off GRID Power Pack. All of these modules can be attached to the phone using the 16-pin connector found on the back of these smartphones.

In other related news, Lenovo just launched the budget ‘Moto E3 Power’ smartphone in the country priced at Rs. 7,999. Currently, the smartphone is exclusively available for sale on Flipkart. Key specifications of the Moto E include a 5-inch display, 1 GHz quad-core processor bundled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage. It gets an 8MP rear and a 5MP front-facing camera, while juicing the device is a 3,500 mAh battery.
