Project Tango

Lenovo has announced its plans to release the first consumer-ready Project Tango smartphone at an event held on the sidelines of CES 2016 in Las Vegas. Lenovo disclosed that the company is committed to accept challenges and innovation risks to change the way by which the user interacts with the mobile technology.

The company has tied up with several stakeholders like Qualcomm to deliver a new level of advanced connected mobile computing experience to its consumers.

Meanwhile, Google has informed the audience that the upcoming smartphone throws open magic windows into the physical world. The device will be accessible to both users and developers all over the world to create a new experience, which blends the virtual and read world.

Project Tango integrates the functions of the camera, gyroscope, and accelerometer to provide the ability to track the 3D motion of a device while simultaneously creating a map of the environment using six degree of freedom motion tracking.

At the event, Lenovo disclosed a prototype of the upcoming device. There are unconfirmed reports that the smartphone is slated to ship with a Snapdragon 810 processor and a display of not less than 6.5-inches. Google had announced its partnership with Qualcomm at the Google I/O event held in 2015.

Google has invited developers to submit ideas before February 15, 2016, regarding the type of apps, which can be developed using Project Tango’s AR tech. The selected apps will be featured on the smartphone.

The Project Tango smartphone is expected to be released before the end of August 2016 and will be priced under $500.
