Lenovo Motorola holds 3rd position in Indian smartphone market: Canalys Report

Lenovo and Motorola

Lenovo and Motorola have attained the third position in the emerging Indian smartphone market, as per a report released by Canalys. The report reveals that the combined shipments of both Lenovo and Motorola were short by 3 million units, which is 60% increase than the same period in the previous year. Both these companies have taken over Intex to a position at the third place.

With a sharp decline in annual shipments by more than 20%, Micromax holds the second place. The report further revealed that Intex, Karbonn and Lava all suffered a sequential decline in shipments.

Extending its lead at the top of the market, Samsung has once again provided to be the number one in the smartphone industry with its devices accounting for around a quarter of the market.

Making inroads with the manufacturing of low-cost 4G LTE smartphones, local smartphone manufacturers are finding it difficult to compete with global giants such as Vivo and Xiaomi with regarding product quality.

With special reference to online retail, the report adds that vendors are able to tap into both rural and urban areas quickly without having to invest time and resources in building a complex sales channel.

By building brand recognition, Chinese smartphone manufacturers have invested heavily in the marketing of devices through both print and visual ads, adds the report.

Previously, we reported that Lenovo has emerged as the favorite smartphone brand of 2015, with Lenovo A6000 Plus and Lenovo K3 Note leading the race in 2015, as per #FlipTrends report released by Flipkart.

Featuring third and sixth positions respectively, Moto G 3rd Gen and Moto E 2nd Gen also found the spot among the list of top smartphones.

We believe that with the entry of Letv into India, with its upcoming Le 1S flash sale on February 2, the competition will further increase, and the existing Indian smartphone companies will have to work hard to gain trust among customers.
