Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has replaced existing rules and has brought about some new changes in online ticket booking system so that misuse can be prevented. IRCTC has announced new checks as well as limits on booking i-Ticket and e-Ticket through its official website which allows individual users to book only six tickets online (as opposed to 10 tickets that was applicable before) in a month. This new change would be applicable from the 15th of February 2016.
According to an analysis of the usage of 10 tickets quota, 90% people booked only up to 6 tickets a month while only 10 % booked more than 6 during that period said Railway Ministry in a press release.
Further, the ministry added that they suspect those 10% users to be involved in touting activities and for deterring such touts and facilitating genuine users, they have taken the decision of keeping the maximum ticket limit to only 6 per month.
As per the new changes, users can book up to 2 tickets per day from 1 user-ID between 8am-10am and can book 2 tatkal tickets per User-ID per day between 10am-12pm. Furthermore, the ‘Quick Book’ option wouldn’t be operational from 8am-12pm.
Coming to the ticketing agents, they are barred from making general bookings from 8am-8.30am, AC tatkal bookings from 10am-10.30am and non-AC tatkal bookings from 11am-11.30am.
The new rule allows only one booking in a session between 8am-12pm, except if tickets have to be booked for return and onward journeys.
