Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has now released the all-new Honor 8A smartphone for pre-orders in its homeland China. While the company scheduled the official launch of Honor 8A on January 8th, the device is already up for pre-orders on its Chinese online store Vmall with all its specifications and price tag.

Key highlights of the smartphone include the display notch, MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, and an eye-catchy design.

Starting with the plan, the Honor 8A bears a water-drop groove at the front, followed by a chin at the bottom that reads Honor. Further, the back is made out of polycarbonate and has a dual-tone colour profile to it.

Honor 8A Specifications

The Honor 8A sports a 6.09-inch LCD panel with an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels. The display further touts a water-drop notch and 283ppi of pixel density.

Under the hood, the device gets powered by a 12nm-based octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 (MT6765) SoC, clocked at 2.3GHz. It is the second smartphone to bring in this new chipset after Xiaomi’s Mi Play. Moving on, the device packs 3GB of RAM alongside 32GB and 64GB storage options. Both the storage variants support expansion via microSD card (up to 512GB).

In the optics department, the Honor 8A gets a single 13-megapixel sensor at the rear with an f/1.8 aperture and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). Up front, we have an 8-megapixel sensor along with an f/2.0 aperture for selfies.

The 8A runs EMUI 9.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie and is backed by a 3,020mAh battery that supports 5V/1A charging.

Lastly, the connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS/ A-GPS. Besides, it also gets a MicroUSB 2.0 and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Note that the Honor 8A lacks a fingerprint scanner and relies on face unlock instead. In fact, the phone also skimps on dual cameras which were a key selling point for its predecessor, i.e. the Honor 7A.

Honor 8A Price & Availability

The Honor 8A has been priced in China at CNY 799 (roughly Rs. 8,000) for the base model with 3GB RAM/ 32GB configuration. Contrarily, the price of 64GB storage variant has not been revealed yet. The handset is available in colours like Magic Night Black, Aurora Blue and Platinum Gold. The shipments of the same will start from Jan 8.

While the company hasn’t announced the availability for the Indian market, we expect a soon arrival. Stay tuned for more updates.
