Google Nexus 2016 HTC Sailfish and Marlin first look unveiled

The design language of Google’s 2016 Nexus line-up, the HTC Nexus Sailfish, and Marlin smartphones have apparently been leaked. According to Android Police, Google is opting for a cleaner design for its products this year.

Nexus 2016 smartphones to feature curved edges, circular fingerprint scanner

A recreated image shared by Android Police shows that the smartphones have curved edges, a metal body (presumably aluminum) with a partial glass or plastic pane on the back giving it a dual tone look with no resemblance to the design of any HTC phones. The back of the phone has the non-protruding rear camera at the top corner with three holes just beside it. The circular fingerprint scanner is also present at the back, positioned similar to Nexus smartphones of the previous year.

The rear of the phone also has some antenna bands with the big glossy pane presumably serving as a window for Near Field Communication (NFC) or some other sensors. The three holes present next to the camera are mysterious till now, but we guess that two may be camera related (auto-focus and perhaps some sort of additional sensor) and the other one probably a secondary microphone.

Interestingly, there is no Nexus branding in the device instead a ‘G’ logo is seen at the bottom of the device. The front has a single earpiece speaker, front-facing camera, a small cluster of sensors and the display of course.

According to the source, both the HTC Nexus Sailfish and Marlin will feature similar built with different dimensions. The smaller Sailfish will come with a 5-inch display and the larger Marlin will sport a 5.5-inch display.

HTC Nexus smartphones to sport aluminum body

The best we know is that these HTC made phones will sport an aluminum body, not polycarbonate. Reportedly, the phone that will be primarily advertised will feature the standard aluminium coloured finish with white face, not the dark grey/black version shown in the image. There is also some speculation that Google may consider an electric blue variant of the Nexus smartphones with a white face and glossy blue rear.

Till now, there is no solid timeline regarding launch of the new Google Nexuses. But it should be round the month of September. It can be confirmed though that both the smartphones will run on Android 7.0 Nougat.
