Global mobile internet user base will reach 2 billion in 2016, says IDC

A research conducted by IDC revealed that more than two billion people are expected to make use of smartphones including tablets by the end of 2016. The report further states that India, China and Indonesia will be the prospective frontrunners to secure the first position in the mobile internet space by the end of 2021.

IDC in a separate statement disclosed that approximately 44% of the world’s total population will have access to mobile and broadband internet in 2016.

As per the statistics released by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), India had touched 402 million user base by the end of December 2015 which is a 49% increase when compared to 2014.

Moreover, 4.79 billion people will access the Internet in 2020 using their mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

There will be a 2% increase in mobile Internet connectivity per year till 2020 if this trend continues, IDC said in a statement. Moreover, multinational companies such as Google, SpaceX and Facebook have already taken an initiative to provide cheap and fast Internet connectivity to the remaining 4 billion people with the help of balloons, high altitude airplanes and satellites.

Google has already announced an innovative plan to provide free Wi-Fi connectivity to 100 railways stations in India by the end of 2016. From our point of view, people should be trained to use public Internet facilities with the help of articles in print and digital media.

It is expected that the global reach of mobile Internet connectivity will grow by more than 25% per year. Moreover, the total amount of time which people will likely spend to access The Internet is also to grow exponentially.

This is mainly due to the rise of apps, mobile commerce and advertising. Nowadays, you can download apps for every news portal and e-commerce websites in three different platforms.

There is an enormous growth in the usage of Internet and few countries like India is set to break all records especially due to low monthly Broadband rentals and reduced costs of components such as Modems and Routers. The easy availability of modem and router in a single wireless device has added extra flavour.

We also attribute the spontaneous growth of the Internet due to the low cost of mobiles and data services. BSNL, Internet service provider in India currently provides a 3G SIM card for under Rs.100, which is very affordable for common people.

Moreover, telecom companies are providing Internet connectivity within a few days of applications instead of several months like in the past. Hence, people in both rural and urban areas in India who were unable to afford Internet are able to easily get access within a short span of time.

In India, people are navigating apps of the ecommerce majors such as Flipkart and Amazon even while travelling on train and buses.

The growth of mobile Internet is expected to surge ahead since more than a billion people make use of the Internet for online banking, music streaming, video sharing, matrimonial, news reading and for finding jobs.
