Apple Music now have 10 million paid subscribers, tops No. 2 position after Spotify in the list

According to reports, Apple Music has reached 10 million paid subscribers across all devices in just six months in all the countries where it is available. It’s a milestone for the company that took its largest rival Spotify around six years to accomplish. Apple officially reported having reached to 6.5 million paid users last October.

Apple Music, which launched on June 30, 2015, in over 100 countries has secured its position as the second largest music streaming service after Spotify.

Both Apple and Spotify claims to offer over 30 million songs, but Apple also claims that they will eventually offer exclusively signed indie artists who will be unavailable on other platforms. Apple has already offered exclusives to subscribers, notably Taylor Swift’s 1989 World Tour video.

Apple Music even offers free plans for people who don’t want to pay, making the fact that they converted 10 million of those into paying customers is, even more, impressive.

Music industry analyst Mark Mulligan predicted last month that Apple Music would have 8 million subscribers by the end of 2015. He expects the service to cross 20 million users base by the end of 2016. Whereas, Apple has reportedly internally set a goal of touching 100 million Apple Music subscribers.

This year, Apple is said to be working on a Hi-Resolution Audio format featuring an expanded 96kHz, 24-bit sampling rate for its Apple Music customers.

Best of all, Apple Music is available on Google Play Store for Android users as well. Time will tell if they’ll be able to hold on to those numbers or even convert more Spotify users to narrow the gap. It’ll be interesting to watch in the coming months to see what they offer.
