It’s already a year past we saw Android 5.0 Lollipop for the first time. It’s the time of the year again where Google is ready to unveil the next iteration of its powerful mobile operating system. Dubbed as Android M (Android 6.0), it’s going to be the most powerful Android iteration till date.
Features of Android M
Everyone’s expecting new features to be packed in the upcoming operating system, and that’s what every new variant is intended to bring. Keeping up with the confectionary foods naming tradition, Google might be considering Milky Bar, Milky Way, Marshmallow, M&Ms, Mud Cake, and Mars to name Android M.
Android M is expected to revamp the notification system. These improved notification might make its way cross-platform. Like iOS, Android might integrate home automation system into Android M. In contribution with third-party tools like Nest, Android M could bring Smart Home features right into your existing Android device.
Another considerable addition will be the security enhancement. Recently, Google introduced “find my phone” feature to Chrome and “kill switch” feature to Android 5.1, to kill a phone remotely and make it useless.
The company introduced Android Wear last year, contributing to glut of smartwatches last year. However, Apple pawned Android wear based smartwatches with large shipments of Apple Watch. To cope up, Android M is reported to feature additional features considering the Android wear community.
Android Auto as showcased in CES 2015, will be the key focus of the company. According to Reuters, Android M will be integrated with Android Auto tech making wireless communication with your car’s system to control music, maps, messages and GPS.
Android M Release Date
Android M was recently spotted at Google I/O 2015 schedule, which was later removed. We can expect the new version to be unveiled at Google I/0 2015, with a release date somewhere in November 2015.
Compatibility
Android 5.0 Lollipop is powering only 10% of the total Android devices, and Android 6.0 might have similar compatibility fashion. All the current phones and those announced last year might get Android M in the first batch. Older phones will not be on the update roadmap.
