The Indian e-retail market is burgeoning at the rate of 45% and has attracted big players around the world. It could reach a figure of $28 Billion by 2019-20. Amazon is seriously looking to expand its presence in the country and in a bid to outsmart its rival Flipkart, is launching its “Global Store” in India.
Amazon is planning to aggressively compete against main rival Flipkart and get a larger share of the lucrative e-commerce market. In line with its stated goal, it has launched its Global Stores where Indian consumers can get their hands on international brands which do not have a presence in the country. What is more flattering is that consumers will have to pay in local currencies for these goods.
Indian consumers will have access to over 4 million products from reputed international brands.Country Head and Amazon India VP; Amit Agrawal said that improving and enriching the consumer shopping experience has been one of the pillars of Amazon’s business. At present, a number of products which are available on Amazon US will be available for Indian consumers. Later products from other countries will also be available for shoppers of India.
Earlier customers from India could order goods from Amazon US, but they had to pay in Dollars. With the latest launch consumers can get Indian as well as International products at a single location. Amazon has a dedicated page which showcases the products which are eligible for shipping from the Global Store. It features a wide array of products from books, shoes, dresses, bakeware to fishing gear, sports equipment, office supplies and kitchenware.
The e-tail market of India is growing at a very fast pace and today is the biggest market after China. Amazon had earlier opened Global Stores in China and Mexico and now India. Brands like Nixon, Simpson, Zumba and Gaiam whose wares were available overseas or were being sold at a premium in the country will now be available easily.
