The DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organization) announced that a new ammunition, mainly designed for MBT Arjun was successfully test-fired. These trials were found unique and efficient and claimed to give a jump in Arjun tanks’ fire-power.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed this test firing and named it as Penetration-Cum Blast(PCB) and Thermobaric(TB). It was conducted on the 6th of January at Chandipur in Odisha.
The main purpose of the trial was demonstrating how effective this ammunition derelict tank that is fitted with instrumentation is when it comes to measuring temperature, blast pressure and shocks on advanced imaging systems and different locations. With this fire, the barrel, target, ammunition bin, tracks, antennas and various sights were damaged effectively.
These ammunitions TB and PCB were developed by High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and Armament Research and Development Establishment (DRDO labs, Pune). For the purpose of test firing, a unique chemical composition was developed by HEMRL for TB ammunition.
The evaluation of these resources was done against various targets including fortifications, concrete structures and armor plates. These trials were witnessed by Army Representatives, Director DQRS, Directors of PXE and HEMRL and other senior officials.
Last year, in the month of November, an AAD (Advanced Air Defence) interceptor missile was test-fired by DRDO from the island of Abdul Kalam in Balesore, Odisha. Researchers conducted flight test of this missile against electronic target from Dhamra’s Kalam Island.
