YU Yutopia launches at Rs 24,999: Here’s All You Need To Know

Yu Televentures has unveiled its much-awaited flagship smartphone, YU Yutopia at a launch event in New Delhi today. Priced at Rs. 24,999, the smartphone comes equipped with top-of-the-line hardware specifications along with its new app, Around YU.

Crafted using aircraft-grade aluminium with a thickness of 7.2 mm, the YU Yutopia (YU5050) boasts a 5.2-inch Sharp WQHD IPS display from Sharp with the screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels at 565 PPI pixel density. The screen is further protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection on the top.


The handset is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-core CPU (2.0GHz Cortex A57 Quad-core + 1.0GHz Cortex A53 Quad-core) paired with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and Adreno 430 GPU for graphics.

The YU Yutopia offers 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable via a microSD card slot. Out-of-the-box, the handset runs on Cyanogen 12.1 OS based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. We expect an upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be available soon.

The smartphone sports Sony-made 21MP PDAF rear camera (Exmor RS IMX230 sensor) with OIS and True Tone dual-LED flash support. Also, there’s an 8MP front-facing camera. The rear camera is capable of recording 4K, Full-HD and Slo-Mo videos at 120 FPS.

The YU Yutopia comes with DTS audio technology and Smart PA TFA9887 that allows users to boost their smartphone speakers to their maximum potential without compromising the sound quality. It also features three microphones, which enables Active Noise Cancellation. The Yu Yutopia comes with Little Bird earphones made by House of Marley.

The YU Yutopia comes packed with a 3,000 mAh Li-polymer battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 support, which is capable of charging the smartphone from 0-60% in less than 30 minutes.

On the connectivity front, the dual-SIM (Micro + Nano) YU Yutopia comes with 4G LTE support with 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/c/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and a 3.5mm headset jack. Additionally on the rear face, there’s a fingerprint scanner that can also be used to capture selfies.

The YU Yutopia comes integrated with company’s native app, Around YU that aggregates the most commonly used utility services in a single interface like food ordering, shopping, flights, hotels, buses, trains and cabs booking. It can be accessed by swiping right from the home screen.

The YU Yutopia comes with 3, 6, 9, 12 months EMI options. Also, SBI Credit/Debit card holders can avail Rs. 1,000 cashback on the purchase of YU Yutopia before 2nd January.

YU has also partnered with Airtel to offer Airtel users with a double data offer i.e. any new 4G Airtel SIM activated will be eligible for an equivalent GB of data for free of cost, which is valid for 6 months.

The company also announced an Assured Upgrade Program during the launch event of Yutopia, which provides an option for the users to upgrade to YU Yutopia 2. Yu will provide 40% cash back at the time of purchasing the next edition by exchanging the existing smartphone, Yutopia.

The YU Yutopia will be exclusively available to buy from Amazon India for Rs. 24,999. The pre-booking of the smartphone has already started and shipping will begin by December 26. YU will also provide free onsite service in addition to online support.
