Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 vs Yu Yunicorn: Which smartphone to buy?

Micromax backed YU added a new smartphone to its list of devices. Some of its features including metal unibody design and fingerprint scanner make it a fit comparison for some of the top-selling mobile phones in the market. Today we have picked Redmi Note 3 for a comparison with it.

Display

Both the phones have a 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display. However, the YU Yunicorn features a 2.5D curved glass. The Redmi Note 3, on the other hand, has a sunlight display mode that helps it adjust brightness according to the exposure to sunlight. There’s no clear winner here.

Processor

The Yunicorn runs on MediaTek P10 octa-core processor with a 1.8 GHz processor and 4GB RAM. The Redmi Note 3, on the other hand, has 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 hexacore chipset along with 2GB RAM. The problem here is that MediaTek processors are known to drain more battery and Snapdragon is very efficient in that regard.

Both the phones have 32GB of on-board storage and can be expanded up to 128GB.

Camera

The Yunicorn sports a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The Redmi Note 3 is equipped with a 16-megapixel rear camera with PDAF and dual LED flash, and a front-facing 5-megapixel front camera.

Battery

The Yunicorn comes with a 4000 mAh battery as compared to 4050mAh of Redmi Note 3. As mentioned earlier, MediaTek processor in Yunicorn consumes more battery. A clear winner again!

Operating System

Micromax no longer has an exclusive deal with Cyanogen, Yunicorn comes packed with “Android on Steroids” based on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. Redmi Note 3 has the same processor and other features such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity are more or less the same, as is standard among competing smartphones.

Price

On top of all the comparisons, we have the price battle to put the nail in the coffin. Yunicorn Costs Rs. 12,999 (it will cost Rs. 13,999 in offline retail stores from next month). The Redmi Note, on the other hand, costs Rs. 11,999.

Yu Yunicorn, the latest from the Yu Televentures, hold almost similar specs as that of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. Yu Yunicorn comes with a new Android on Steroids OS based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and the Redmi Note 3 comes with Android Lollipop. Seeing the specs comparison, we can say that Redmi Note 3 is the winner of this competition.
