Yeelight, a brand that is backed by Xiaomi has been producing quality smart lighting products for the western market for a while now. They launched in the Indian market a couple of months back with just two products, but things have changed now. Recently Yeelight expanded their India portfolio with a number of exciting products, among them is the Yeelight Ambiance Lamp and Lightstrip Plus.
We got our hands on both the products and here’s our review.

Design
The Yeelight Ambiance Lamp has a cylindrical shape, with the base made out of Aluminum. The base houses the Bluetooth module, circuits along with the 2,100 mAh rechargeable battery. On the bottom side of the base is the micro USB charging port, power button along with the regulatory information. The body of the lamp is made out of high-quality clear acrylic giving out glass-like feel.
Inside the housing is the Lamp which mimics a candle. The case of the lamp coil is made out of metal and painted gold, with the LED’s placed inside it. The body of the lamp can swirl left to right and triggers the brightness controls.
Overall the product has a very minimalistic & timeless design and oozes luxury.
On the other hand, the Yeelight Lightstrip Plus is similar to what you would expect with an LED strip. The strip is of very high-quality with the LED’s neatly laid out. The unnecessary circuitry is covered by the white tape that runs along the LED. The strip is covered in clear rubber coat on one side, while the back has adhesive tape for easy application.
The Lightstrip gives you the ability to attach more segments via the connectors on both the ends, but the strip can also be cut short. The Lightstrip needs a continuous power supply source and to manage that there is an adapter provided along with a controller that houses the Wi-Fi module along with other important circuitry.
Performance
We will focus first on the Yeelight Ambiance Lamp. The lamp comes with a 2,100 mAh rechargeable battery as previously mentioned which gives the runtime of about 8 hours. The lamp has about 1800K Color temperature, which is the same as that of a candlelight. During our tests, we got around 7 hours of battery life and the Lamp took close to 2 hours to fully charge via the wall outlet.
The pairing process is simple, it is all done using the Yeelight app which is available for both Android and iOS. Upon launching the app, you are required to sign up for a Xiaomi account, in order to pair the product with your smartphone. The pairing is done via Bluetooth since there is no Wi-Fi support for the lamp. Once paired, all the functions like turning on/off, changing brightness etc. can be done via the app. We did notice some connections issues, once the Bluetooth was reset on the smartphone.
The lamp can also be controlled using a smart speaker/assistant via IFTTT.
Coming to the Yeelight Lightstrip Plus, the strip comes with the support for Wi-fi and uses the same Yeelight app. The whole pairing process is similar to that of the Ambiance lamp. Unlike the lamp, the LED’s on the Lightstrip are multi-coloured and have support for 16 million color combinations. You get the option to change colors via the color pallet in the app.
Since the strip connects via wi-fi, the connection was very stable and we didn’t notice any issues. Another advantage of wi-fi here is the support for Voice control. The lightstrip can be controlled via both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, and the actions are carried out instantly without any lag.

Verdict – Should you go for it?
We totally recommend both the Yeelight Ambiance Lamp and the Lightstrip Plus. There isn’t any similar product like the Ambiance Lamp providing this amount of quality at just INR 4,199. While the Yeelight Lightstrip Plus is a smart buy for people looking for smart LED strips. They offer quite a bang for your buck and are way less in terms of pricing when compared to the Philips Hue Light strip. Both the products belong to a very niche category that is quickly gaining interest among urban buyers.
