Indian handset manufacturer Xolo will reportedly expand its 4G range of smartphones in the Rs. 4,000- Rs. 10,000 price bracket in the coming months. The move comes as the company aims to cash in on the growing popularity of 4G-ready smartphones alongside the commercial roll out of Reliance Jio 4G services. The company has also joined hands with Reliance Jio and will offer the Jio Preview 4G SIM for its recently announced smartphones, which gives Xolo smartphone users free unlimited voice calling and data services for 90 days.
Xolo business head Sunil Raina said that 4G handsets already account for about 70 percent of smartphone shipment in India. He further added that starting next few months, all of the company’s upcoming smartphones will be 4G-enabled. While according to research firm IDC, India is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets globally. In the quarter ending April-June 2016, 2.75 million smartphones were shipped in the country. In addition, the company is also planning to venture into the wearables market this fiscal year.
In the current quarter, demand for 4G-ready smartphones is expected to rise exponentially with the commercial roll out of Reliance Jio services – which has already captured 6.8 percent market share during its test phase.
Besides its own 4G LYF range of smartphones, Reliance Jio has also partnered with 20 brands apart from Xolo and Lava to offer unlimited data and voice calling for 90 days to customers. Reliance has also officially made the Jio SIM available for 4G-enabled devices from Samsung, LG, Asus, Panasonic, Alcatel, TCL, Yu and Micromax, Gionee and Karbonn.
Reliance had earlier also announced the Reliance Jio Preview SIM offer which gives 90 days of free unlimited of 4G data. To avail the offer on compatible handsets, users will need to install the MyJio App, the app then generates a barcode which they’ll need to submit to their nearest Reliance Digital Stores to get the free JIO Preview SIM card. Users get access to plenty of free content, which is valid only for a period of 90 days from the date of activation.
As of now, Xolo smartphones that are eligible for the Jio Preview offer include Xolo Black 1X, Xolo era 4K, Xolo era X, Xolo era 4G. Besides, all upcoming 4G-ready XOLO smartphones will also be applicable for the offer.
