Xiaomi Redmi 6 and 6A launched: Specifications, Features, Availability, and more

Xiaomi has finally announced the sixth-generation range of Redmi devices with the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A. Both budget handsets were announced for the Chinese market and will go on sale in the country starting June 15.

As far as specs are concerned, the Redmi 6 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ display having an aspect ratio of 18:9 and offers an 80.7 percent screen to body ratio. Under the hood, the handset gets powered by MediaTek’s latest Helio P22 processor. The chipset brings advanced 12nm process, AI applications, dual-camera support, as well improved connectivity to mid-range smartphones.

The Redmi 6 is offered in a choice of 3GB RAM/32GB storage and a 4GB RAM/64GB storage model. The handset also offers storage expandability up to 256GB via a microSD slot.

In the photography department, the Redmi 6 packs a dual-lens (12MP+5MP) primary camera setup on the back. For selfies, the device comes with a 5MP front-facing shooter with Facial Unlock capabilities. The device runs Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10 out-of-the-box and gets a 3000mAh battery.

Connectivity options on the handset include dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm jack, and a microUSB slot. The device also comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Sensors on the handset include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, digital compass, gyroscope, infrared, as well as a proximity sensor. In terms of dimensions, the Redmi 6 measures in at 147.5×71.5×8.3mm, and weighs 146 grams.

As far as pricing goes, the handset is priced at 799 Yuan (Rs. 8,400 approx.) for the 3GB RAM/32GB storage model, while the 4GB RAM/64GB storage model gets a price tag of 999 Yuan (Rs. 10,400 approx.)

Besides, the company also launched more affordable Redmi 6A starting at 599 (Yuan Rs.6300 approx.) The handset gets the same specs as the Redmi 6, expect that it has a 13MP single lens primary camera as opposed to the dual-lens setup of the Redmi 6. Also, the device is only offered in 2GB RAM/16GB storage configuration. Both devices will go sale in China starting June 15 (10am CST).
