Xiaomi Mi Max vs Redmi Note 3: Which Android smartphone you should buy?

Xiaomi launched the much-awaited Mi Max at a grand event in New Delhi on June 30. Redmi Note 3 is a premium smartphone released by Xiaomi during early 2016. While Mi Max features a large display of 6.44-inches, Note 3 offers standard size of 5.5-inch. In this article, we will compare the features and specifications of both devices.

Display:

While Xiaomi Mi Max is equipped with a 6.44-inch Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protected FHD display, the Redmi Note 3 and Mi Max features a 5.5-inch FHD IPS display with support for night display, reading mode and color temperature adjustment. Even though Xiaomi Mi Max offers a big display than Note 3, the pixel density is only 342PPI, when compared to 401PPI in Redmi Note 3. Hence, it remains to be seen as to whether you will be able to take advantage of the whole large display in Mi Max.

Performance:

Xiaomi Mi Max is available in both 3GB and 4GB RAM variants with 32GB and 128GB internal storage respectively. While the 3GB RAM variant includes Snapdragon 650 processor, the 4GB RAM ships with a powerful Snapdragon 652 processor. On the other hand, Redmi Note 3 is powered by a Snapdragon 650 processor for both 2GB and 3GB variants coupled with Adreno 510 graphics. The big attraction of Mi Max is the addition of 128GB internal storage, which is huge for a smartphone priced below Rs. 20,000.

Camera:

While both Xiaomi Mi Max and Redmi Note 3 features 16MP main camera coupled with f/2.0 aperture, the front-facing shooter included with Mi Max also carries the same 5MP sensor.

Battery:

Xiaomi Mi Max offers the same 4850mAh. However, Redmi Note 3 features a 4000mAh powerful battery, which is less than Mi Max.

Operating Platform:

While Xiaomi Mi Max is equipped with Android 6 Marshmallow, the Redmi Note 3 offers Android 5.1 Lollipop on top of MIUI 7. However, you can expect MIUI 8 out-of-the-box on Mi Max.

Both Xiaomi Mi Max and Redmi Note 3 also includes a fingerprint sensor on the rear side.

Price:

While the 3GB RAM/32GB internal storage coupled with Snapdragon 650 is priced at Rs. 14,999, the 4GB RAM/128GB storage variant with Snapdragon 652 is priced attractively at Rs. 19,999. Xiaomi, meanwhile has priced the 3GB RAM Redmi Note 3 variant at Rs. 11,999 by keeping their 2GB RAM model at Rs. 9,999.

Conclusion:

As you can see from the above specifications, Mi Max ships with a large display but consists of decreased pixel density. In Case of Mi Max, you can pick from either 3GB RAM or 4GB RAM. However, in Redmi Note 3, you have a choice between 2GB and 3GB RAM variants. Both Mi Max and Note 3 offer expansion capability in the storage department. The big advantage of Mi Max is that you have 128GB storage space by default. Hence, you will be able to work with several apps and programs without an additional SD card.

If you are not concerned about the decreased pixel density in Mi Max, we would suggest you buy Mi Max since you will be able to work with the latest Android Marshmallow right after unboxing.
