Xiaomi launches Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus in two variants: Specs, price and features

Xiaomi Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus smartphones have launched with Snapdragon 821 processor and a metal unibody design in gold, rose gold, silver, and white color variants. While Mi 5s features a standard camera, the Mi 5s Plus ships with a dual rear camera. According to company sources, the Mi 5s is the first handset to offer the latest Snapdragon 821 processor.

Xiaomi Mi 5s, released in China features a 5.15-inch FHD display. The main attraction of Mi 5s is the integration of NTSC 95 percent color gamut and a brightness of 600 nits. During the launch event, the company revealed that the display is manufactured using 16 ultra-bright LED lights to help further boost brightness.

On the specifications front, the Xiaomi Mi 5s is equipped with 3GB/64GB, 4GB/128GB, 12-megapixel Sony IMX 378 sensor, 4-megapixel front-facing snapper loaded with Android 6 Marshmallow on top of MIUI 8. A 3200mAh battery completes the package.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus features a 5.7-inch FHD display, which is larger than the Mi 5s. However, the handset only offers a brightness of 550 nits and an NTSC 94 percent color gamut.

The main attraction of Mi 5s Plus is the integration of a dual rear camera with two 13-megapixel sensors. The first sensor enables you to capture visuals in color and another sensor in black and white.

The 3GB RAM/64GB internal storage is priced at CNY 1,999 (Rs. 20000). However, the 4GB RAM/128GB storage is available at CNY 2,299 (Rs. 22900).

Talking about other specifications, the Mi 5s Plus ships with 4GB/64GB, 6GB/128GB, 13MP dual camera, 4MP front camera powered by a 3800mAh battery. If you compare with Mi 5s, the Plus variant offers slightly higher battery.

Both Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus provide support for PDAF autofocus, 4-megapixel front camera paired with 2-micron pixels and a f/2.0 aperture. While the Mi 5s runs under a 2.15GHz Snapdragon 821 processor, the Mi 5s Plus bears a 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821 processor.

Moreover, both Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the physical home button. Since the sensor is placed under glass, it will not be damaged. However, Xiaomi revealed that the sensor offers the same level of accuracy and speed as regular planar fingerprint sensors.

Talking about connectivity, the newly launched smartphones provides support for 4G LTE, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The handset also offers a wide range of sensors such as an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, barometer, and magnetometer.

The 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant of Mi 5s Plus is priced at CNY 2,299 (roughly Rs. 22,900). However, the 6GB RAM/128GB storage variant is priced at CNY 2,599 (Rs. 26,000).
