WhatsApp has rolled out new features with which users will be able to not only type content but also can view notification alerts in bold and italic as part of the version 2.12.535 for Android. Moreover, the Facebook-owned messaging application also introduced several improvements in the document file sharing feature such as by incorporating support for Google Drive.

A report by a popular online tech portal revealed that users can select and share a PDF, Word file or PowerPoint files from Google Drive. Even though you upload a Word or PowerPoint file, it will be automatically converted into PDF format before sharing over the messaging service.

In addition to the above-mentioned features, WhatsApp also displays a progress percentage whenever an automatic local backup is running in the background. Even though the pop-up blocks the functioning of the app, it will still display the percentage so that users will have an idea of how much time they will have to wait before the app is usable again.

Another minor modification to the UI is that the phone number no longer shows up in the front and centre in the new Settings screen. The new profile section, in its first major overhaul, will only display the photo, name, and status and does not reveal the phone number.

The latest release is not yet available to download from the company website but is showing up as an OTA update on Google Play for beta testers. To enroll in the beta testing program, you need to visit www.whatsapp.com/android. Meanwhile, the company has also rolled out an updated version of WhatsApp for iPhone with version v2.12.16.

As a user, you will be able to view formatted content and notification alerts provided both parties should be on the same app version number 2.12.535.
