Being no stranger to storage solutions, Western Digital continues to vow us with its latest ‘My Passport’ range of external hard drives by introducing Western Digital My Passport Ultra. Exterior has the perfect design, being large at portable storage it has excellent read and write speed also.

Available in four eyeful colors, you can choose from 1TB and 2TB storage capacities, priced at 4,599 INR and 7,150 INR respectively.  It differentiates itself among an extensive array of primary external storage devices with its 3-year extended warranty, 256-bit hardware encryption, massive portable storage, slimmer and easy to carry, and a wide range of color options.

Measured at 0.8×3.25×4.5 inches, the front of the HD has glossy finish rest has rugged texture all over. Seems as it is designed for longevity and doesn’t feel insubstantial. You can rely on My Passport Ultra due to its durability and shock tolerance feature.

My Passport Ultra has USB 3.0 compatibility, which means it is 3X faster than USB 3.0 with a transfer speed of 5 GB/s. It is also compatible with USB 2.0 so don’t be disquiet if you don’t have a USB 3.0 port.

Setting it up is very easy, just connect the device to USB 3.0 port and download WD utilities. You need to download WD Backup and security software from the company website.

Privacy has been a concern with users since long, so My Passport Ultra lets you keep your private stuff private and keep your digital life secure. Just set a password on HD and WD Security activates 256-bit AES hardware encryption. Since WD Security is hardware based, you can access your file from a computer that does not have WD Security installed.

Sit back and relax because now you have a second copy of your indispensable data. You can also create backup to Dropbox or Baidu; you simply need to have an account on either of them.

You get 1.81TB available to use after installing software. When put on testing, it boasted read and write speed of 112MB/s and 114MB/s respectively. Also, took 13 seconds for copying 1.39GB movie at a speed of 114 MB/s but at the same time when I copied the same amount of cluttered images data the obtained speed was 72MB/s and 68MB/s for read and write respectively.

Conclusion

The WD My Passport Ultra is designed for durability with some exclusive features and more attractive color options that make it more desirable over other models. However, external HD exteriors don’t matter much while making a purchase, but a complete package is always appreciated. Stellar performance, portability, regular backup features makes it a worth buy.
