Volvo has officially confirmed that bookings for its forthcoming S90 premium luxury sedan are now open. The Volvo S90 is all set for its India launch sometime during the festive season. It is expected to get a starting price tag of Rs. 57 lakh for the base model, and will rival the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Audi A6.

“The S90 is one of the most awaited launches from Volvo’s portfolio this year. It’s got everything you would expect a luxurious sedan to have — the look, the feel and the design without any compromise on the comfort! The S90 comes with a sub-2L diesel engine, and we are confident that it will change the dynamics of the segment in India. We are opening the pre-bookings for our patrons who would like to be the early ones to own the S90,” said Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India.

The sedan’s design is based on Volvo’s Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), which allows the company to build different types of cars which share the same design cues. Hence, the S90 shares a lot of design aesthetics with the XC90 SUV such as similar headlights and grille.

The Volvo S90 will reportedly be offered in two trims when it launches. The D4 gets a 2.0-lite diesel engine that generates 192PS of power, while the D5 trim with all-wheel drive churns out 238PS and 480Nm.

The sedan is expected to come with a plethora of features just like any other Volvo offering such as Bowers & Wilkins sound system, Pilot Assist, Park Assist, navigation, and climate control among others. It will be equipped with radar-based safety systems such as a 360-degree camera which gives a bird’s eye view of the car.

The S90 will join Volvo’s offerings in India, which include the S60, S60 Cross Country, V40, V40 Cross Country, XC60, and XC90.
