After succeeding in the trial phase carried out in the Philippines, Twitter is planning to introduce the app “Twitter Lite” to the rest of the world. More than two dozen countries are listed to access the app. Countries like Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and many more. This new app is not much different from Facebook Lite. Twitter Lite is built especially for the developing countries that require some cost-efficiency in data planning. The data plans in developing countries are too costly as compared to others. The new Twitter Lite app will significantly bring down the overall cost of purchasing data.
The app is designed to load faster on slow connections which are highly prevalent in the developing countries. Unreliable mobile networks like 2G and 3G are the best platform for Twitter Lite to prove its efficiency. The size of the app is also below 3MB which also reduces the amount of space it takes up n your phone and doesn’t make it slow. The introduction of Twitter Lite has led to a rise in tweets by more than 50%. This move has enabled this social networking site to increase its presence in different corners of the globe. Out of the total 330 million monthly users, almost 80% of the users are based outside the U.S.
Twitter introduced the beta version of the application in September to its users in the Philippines. The app is unavailable in India as of now and is only designed for Android phones. The countries covered to get access to Twitter Lite are Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Latin America, specifically: Algeria, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Malaysia, Nigeria, Nepal, Panama, Peru, Serbia, El Salvador, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, Tanzania, and Venezuela.
