TomTom has launched its lineup of GPS sports watches in India today. The company has reportedly partnered up with online retailer giant Flipkart to bring its four GPS-enabled sports watches to Indian customers.

Out of the four, two of TomTom’s sports watches are called TomTom Runner and TomTom Multi-Sport. The TomTom Runner will be priced at Rs. 12,999 and TomTom Multi-Sport will be priced at Rs. 15,499. Neither of devices have any built-in heart rate monitor. To enjoy that feature, customers will have to spend a bit more money, Rs. 20,999 to be exact, to get the TomTom Runner’s cardio version that has a heart rate monitor built in. For Rs. 23,499, users will be able to get the TomTom Multi-Sport watch that has built-in heart rate monitor.

The primary difference between TomTom Runner and TomTom Multi-Sport is the type of users they are made for. TomTom Runner is made with average users in mind who wants to keep track of their jogging habit. On the other hand, TomTom Multi-Sport is made with the type of users in mind who are engaged in different types of activity such as cycling, running, swimming, etc.

The four sports watches offered by TomTom are primarily aimed at athletes who want to track their performance details, monitor their heart rate and keep track of the places they run thanks to the built-in GPS of the device. According to TomTom, their watches are not fancy smartwatches. These are built for real fitness enthusiasts who would like a graphical training tool to help them accomplish their fitness goals.

All of the four watches offered by TomTom are waterproof. The battery on these watches can last almost a month on standby. But when GPS and heart rate monitors are turned on, the battery can run dry after 8 to 10 hours.

TomTom Sport Watches come with charging stations which take about three hours to fully charge up the watches. TomTom has MySports app available on both Android and iOS which you can use to connect to the watches via Bluetooth connectivity.

At a time when smartwatches are on the rise, it would be interesting to see how much of a demand there is for basic sport watches that look like devices from a couple years ago. Almost all of today’s smartwatches have these fitness benefits with better design, better display and more features. However, TomTom apparently feels that there is still a market for these types of watches among the more serious athletes and wants to cater to them through its range of GPS sport watches.
