Samsung goes cordless with Gear IconX and Gear Fit 2 fitness trackers

With Gear IconX, Samsung plans to cut the cord to enable wireless music delivery. This wireless set of earbuds, in addition to delivering music, can measure your heartbeat, the number of steps taken, and other fitness tracking metrics. The best part is that the user does not need to carry the phone for this.

Using the phone’s Bluetooth connection, it can sync with S health apps on Samsung phones. In addition, you do not need to have the phone for listening to songs stored on the internal storage. However, for streaming music online, you do need to carry the phone. The earbuds are connected wirelessly to each other and are comfortable to wear for long hours. The controls are a little difficult to manage on the buds but they provide decent sound and are extremely light weight.

With an average battery, music play can last for around 3 hours while streaming will drain out the battery in 90 minutes. Even though you are provided with 4GB of storage, Gear IconX cannot be used for long hours. But the battery case is compact and charge the buds twice before needing juice for itself.

In addition to this, Samsung has also introduced Gear Fit 2 fitness wearable, which has a 1.5-inch curved Super AMOLED display. This wearable gear can measure the number of steps taken, amount of calories burned, and even quality of sleep.

The improved Gear Fit 2 fitness offers better compatibility with non-Samsung (but Android) devices which was missing in the previous version. Equipped with 4GB of storage and water resistance, the fitness band houses a battery of 200mAh. Samsung claims the battery to last for 3-4 days with typical usage, which is pretty impressive. Coming with a price tag of a modest $179, users will be able to grab the gear from 10th of June.
