Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to get Android Oreo update soon

Multiple reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has started getting the latest Android Oreo 8.0 update, which also comes with the newest Android security patch level. Sources have cited a Reddit user who has apparently posted screenshots of an  Exynos-powered Galaxy Note 8 running Android Oreo.

That being said, the Korean tech giant is yet to officially announce the roll out.

The Reddit user has an Exynos-powered variant of the Galaxy Note 8 (N950F), while the firmware update has a build number R16NW.N950FXXU2CRA1.DM.

Below is a partial changelog for the update:

  • Update to the keyboard
  • Picture in picture support (so far I have noticed it in YouTube and google maps)
  • App specific long press menus from launcher (can no longer put apps to sleep from that menu or open app settings)
  • Secure folder can be set to stay unlocked until the screen goes to sleep
  • Autofill API support (with bio-metrics) for all apps, and browser
  • Colored media notifications
  • Notification categories
  • Customization options for notification badges
  • Keyboard uses gify for gif search support (doesn’t work in gboard with stock messaging still)
  • More edge lighting options
  • Ability to ONLY view Samsung cloud items
  • Ability to backup Samsung secure folder in Samsung cloud
  • Bluetooth, high-quality audio codecs
  • Manage passwords of Samsung and third party apps with Samsung pass

Samsung has been testing the Android Oreo update under the Galaxy Beta Programme for the Galaxy S8 range, and it appears the update is soon expected to arrive on the Galaxy Note 8 as well. It appears Samsung is likely testing the update for the Galaxy Note 8 before it officially begins with a wider rollout.

Users can also check for the update manually by going to device Settings » Software update » and select Download updates manually option. We’ll keep you updated as soon as we hear anything new. Keep checking back for more.
