Picostone Basic Review: Control your switchboards through your smartphone flawlessly!

Picostone 2

Picostone Basic is a smart plug ‘n’ play device designed as a quick, affordable way to control home appliances with your smartphone. Today, I’m reviewing the Picostone Basic – a pocket-sized box that attaches itself behind the switchboard and lets you simultaneously control four appliances. These include fans, lights, along with dimmable and non-dimmable LEDs.

Setting up the main device is simple. Though, you’ll need to call a professional electrician to get the box installed behind the switchboard. The instructions to install the box and how wires need to be connected were pretty straightforward, and the electrician was done in about in 15 minutes.

In case your electrician can’t understand instructions, you can get in touch with PicoStone’s customer support to quickly resolve the issue. Once the box is installed, the next step is to install the Picostone app from App Store or the PlayStore and create a user account.

Once done, the device must be paired with your smartphone using the app and your Wi-Fi, and you’re good to go. The app can control up to four switches, and I chose two fans, one, light, and one dimmable light. The app worked flawlessly on my phone and within minutes, I was controlling the ceiling fan and the lights without having to get up from my bed. Besides, I could even schedule switching the fan and lights on and off with the Picostone Basic.

It also comes with dimmable functionality. I have a dimmable light and with Picostone Basic I could set the room ambiance from the convenience of my smartphone.

Pros

  • Affordable
  • Quick and relatively easy setup
  • 2-year warranty
  • Good customer support

Cons

  • Limited support for Google Assistant & Siri

My Verdict

If you’re one of those who hates getting out of bed to off the light, this device is a must-have. Picostone is taking comfort to another level by providing easy access to all the home utilitarian stuff like TV, lights, fans, Ac etc from your phone. Even from outside your house you can now control the switches and electrical gadgets from your phone.

Overall, the product is great and unique. Officially priced at Rs. 11,800, I was pleasantly surprised with the Picostone Basic as it worked better than I had expected. It’s a reasonably priced, great home automation product which has a lot of potentials. Though the Picostone fully supports Amazon Alexa but I hope the Picostone team adds Siri and Google Assistant integration so that it can show its full power and convenience.
