Philips announces 901F Smart OLED 4K TV at IFA 2016

Philips has announced its first 55-inch OLED TV at the ongoing IFA 2016 called the 901F. Not only does its support 4K, it also gets support HDR High Dynamic Range. Another highlight of the TV is the Ambient Lighting system included on either sides, which makes for vivid and colorful pictures, and also reduces eye strain when watching in low light conditions.

Besides, it also gets an integrated 6.1 channel, along with a 30-watt sound bar, which includes six front firing speakers, an aluminum sound bar along with a Triple Ring speaker with an included bass port.

Philips 901F OLED TV Features

The Philips 901F runs Android, which means users get access to a raft of apps from the PlayStore, and the quad-core processor on board should keep things running smoothly. Moreover, there’s a built-in QWERTY keyboard which allows searching for programs and apps easier. It also gets a 540-nit peak light performance and Perfect Contrast System, which as the name suggests, offers improved levels of contrast.

Besides, the 901F also features Philips Perfect Colour system with a 17-bit color booster and better color processing for deeper blacks, brighter whites, and more realistic skin tones. According to Philips, the 901F has a 17-bit color system capable of reproducing 2,250 trillion colors. The Philips 901F also offers great and consistent performance from all viewing angles, which should help those users who do not sit directly in front of the TV screen.

The frame around the edges get a subtle chrome finish, and the TV is not very thin, but not very thick either. The sound bar housed on the bottom edge gets decked in grey also add to the overall aesthetic appeal of the television.

Philips 901F OLED TV Price and Availability

No pricing or availability details are announced by the company, but the Philips 901F is expected to start shipping by the end of this year. Several reports suggest that it will be priced around $4000.

Philips 901F OLED has the potential to compete against the likes of LG and Samsung, who are considered pioneers when it comes to OLED technology. It will be fascinating to see how the 901F stacks up against OLED offering from the big boys.
