Design and Display

The Panasonic P85 comes with a plastic unibody design with sleek overall dimensions. The smartphone offers optimum form factor, and its feel good in hands. The front the phone adheres 5 inches panel with an earpiece, selfie camera, and sensor on the top. The back of the device contains the camera unit, LED flash and the sub mic at the top, while at the bottom there is a speaker grill. The top of the phone include 3.5mm audio jack, and the bottom is equipped with a micro USB port and a microphone.

The left side of the P85 smartphone is packed with a volume rocker, Whereas on the right side there is a dual SIM tray and power button. On the display front, the Panasonic P85 is equipped with a 5 inch 720 p IPS display which offers accurate color reproduction with above average sunlight legibility. The viewing angle is just fine, and the overall brightness is not that great. The display is quick reflective under direct sunlight, and its visibility is just above average even in the full brightness mode.

Performance

The P85 smartphone is powered by a MediaTek MT6735P Quad-Core 1.0GHz Processor paired with 2GB RAM. The smartphone performs reasonably well but shows hiccups during the multitasking and heavy gaming. However, the routine task like browsing is done with an ease, and it shows the decent transition in switching the apps. The smartphone runs on the Android 6.0 Marshmellow OS which offers seamless pure Android experience to the users.

The smartphone is packed with 16GB ROM which is further expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. The P85 is fuelled by a 4000 mAh battery which offers remarkable performance under heavy usage. The smartphone provides a full day of backup, and it does not heat up on continuous usage. Moreover, battery charge from zero to 100% in 3:20 hr which is quite good.

Camera

The Panasonic P85 is packed with 8MP rear shooter which comes with a LED flash. The camera performs very well in daylight conditions, and it offers excellent color saturation and optimum contrast level. Moreover, sometimes we noticed the overexposed image with some blur but it was rectified when we apply the tap to focus method. In the indoor scenarios, the camera captures optimum detail and color saturation but they lack sharpness.

Meanwhile, the front camera performance is just below average, its 2MP module is not capable of capturing the good detail, and the output images are packed with uneven color distribution. In daylight conditions, the camera optics snaps low-quality pictures, and in low light, it’s just falling apart.

Conclusion

Considering the brand value and the price point, the Panasonic P85 is a decent entry-level smartphone. As this market segment is already flooded with the low-cost handset, the P85 easily distinct itself from rest of the brands. The manufacturers like Micromax, iVOOMi, and Intex have continuously targeted this market with their offerings, and it seems that Panasonic held the right nerve. Moreover, this current offering from the company is good in some aspect, but they have to work hard to assemble the right kind of hardware combination in a different price segment offerings.
