OnePlus 3T Android 7.0 Nougat Oxygen OS 4.0.1 update review

OnePlus 3T have the straight competition to Google Pixel because of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and lots of RAM. But there is only one thing which is holding down the OnePlus 3T is the software, Google Pixel released with Android 7.0 Nougat and OnePlus 3T was released with Android 6.0 Marshmallow running out of the box. Now, the competition is fierce because OnePlus 3T has received the Android 7.0 Nougat update. With this update, the Oxygen OS version has increased to 4.0.1, let’s see what the new features which we will get with this update are.

Features

There are no noticeable changes in the user interface of Oxygen OS 4.0.1 but there are lots of features OnePlus has added into it. The Android 7.0 Nougat stock features are also there like the split screen and DPI changer, but some stock Android features don’t work like the long press menu and recent app switch. There are some features which OnePlus has added in Oxygen OS 4.0 like a new settings app and sound enhancement settings for headphones.

Performance

The performance of OnePlus 3T is unbeatable with all the hardware and Oxygen OS 3.0.1, but after updating it to Oxygen OS 4.0, I’ve seen some random freeze in Modern Combat 5. I’ve also played the same game with multiplayer mode before on Oxygen OS 3.0.1 but never seen this game lag at any place. And not only lags, this game and some more other high graphics games crashes during multiplayer mode. Besides these games, there were no freeze or crash experienced.

Let’s see it there is any change in benchmarking too; we are going to perform the same tests which we did on OnePlus 3T. First, we will run AnTuTu benchmark then Geekbench 4, the previous score are listed with the new one. Apart from performance, I’ve also experienced excessive heating near the camera while intense gaming and sometimes during charging too! Overall the performance dropped a bit with this update and also the battery performance.

Conclusion

The performance and heating are the biggest issue with this update, it can be a possibility that the heating problem is caused by Android 7.0 Nougat because Google Pixel also get heated while gaming. If you bought OnePlus 3T because of its powerful hardware and played games on it often then you should not update your OnePlus 3T to Oxygen OS 4.0.1. Wait for some time till OnePlus solve these issues and make it run more fast and snappy as before.
