Ola Cabs set to go app-only from August 2015

The popular Indian mobile app for personal transportation, Ola Cabs is all set to follow the footsteps of e-commerce portal Myntra by deciding to go app-only way across its 100 cities of operations. This means that Ola Cabs will be accessible through a mobile application only from 1st August 2015.

In a statement in Bengaluru, Ola said, “Our call center will continue to operate 24×7 for customer support and assistance. We also have an app for our customers to save on data usage.” The company also added that since it receives 99% of bookings via its official app, it has decided to go for an app only way.

Ola Cabs was the first in the country to launch a mobile app for cab booking in 2011, which is also presently used to book auto-rickshaws and taxis in Mumbai.

Ola has seen a fabulous growth after its promising launch a year ago and from 200 cabs during the initial launch; it has come a long way, adding 800 cabs on its platform, at present.

In a statement, Ola Chief operating officer – Pranay Jivrajka said, “Our ‘mobile first’ focus coupled with increasing smartphones penetration across the country has made booking a cab through an app an intuitive thing to do for users.” He also added, “Even in smaller cities where we launched our services in the past year, more than 95% of bookings are made through the app.”

Additionally, Ola has rolled out an enhancement in its new update this week that will allow users to experience swift loading of the app on a 2G network. The 2G enhancements will also allow users in small towns and low network areas to access Ola app without compromising on speed and ease of access.

Ola app is available for free download for Android, iOS and Windows Phone users. New customers can also enjoy the discount of Rs. 150 on their first Ola ride by applying the coupon code “APPONLY” while booking the cab.
