Microsoft Surface Pro 5 with Intel Kaby Lake to reportedly launch by March 31

If rumors are to be believed, Microsoft is gearing up to launch Surface Pro 5 with Intel Kaby Lake processor in the first quarter of 2017. Hence, you can expect the launch of the new tablet before March 31. The new development was initially disclosed by China’s Economic Daily News and subsequently confirmed by DigiTimes.

According to the report, the new convertible tablet features an Ultra HD display paired with a magnetic charging stylus. There are reports that Pegatron Technology has been assigned the task to manufacture the new tablet. However, we are unable to see any specific details about the specifications of the upcoming Surface Pro 5.

Meanwhile, the Redmond-based software giant has already confirmed that the company will integrate Windows 10 on ARM-architecture based processors. Hence, you can expect Snapdragon processors since the company has already established a partnership with Qualcomm.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 specifications

On the specifications front, Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be equipped with the Intel Kaby Lake Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The new tablet will also include rechargeable Surface Pen and dock, as per the reports leaked from patent filings. You can also expect the integration of USB Type-C port for fast charging in addition to other standard ports.

Regarding pricing, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be available from $899. A basic Intel Core i7 model will be available at $999. However, you need to pay above $1599 for the i7 Extreme version.

Microsoft Surface Phone to ship with Intel Kaby Lake processor

Recently, renders of the purported Surface Phone has surfaced on Weibo. However, you should accept the images only with a pinch of salt since the images resemble that of the old Lumia smartphones. In the past, we had reported several stories about the rumored Surface Phone.

However, we have not seen any specific announcement from Microsoft about the phone. According to reports, the forthcoming Surface Phone will ship with Intel Kaby Lake processor and 8GB RAM.

In a statement released to the press, Microsoft revealed that the company posted huge sales in November 2016 for the new Surface Book. Furthermore, it was preferred over Apple’s MacBook Pro 2016. Hence, the timing of the launch was perfect for Microsoft since customers have a choice to pick a gadget according to their preference.

With Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book emerging as successful gadgets, the company had updated its Surface series in October 2016. The Surface Book features Intel Core i7 processor coupled with NVIDIA’s GTX 965M graphics with the ability to deliver 16 hours of battery life. You can buy Surface Book in 256GB, 512GB or 1TB internal storage variants priced at $2399, $2799, and $3299 respectively.
