Microsoft rolls out Photo Story app for Windows Phone devices

The OS giant, Microsoft has launched a new photo app for its Windows Phone 8.1 (also Windows 10 Mobile) operating system. The app is named Photo Story. The app is designed to automatically collect images and arrange them to make a themed video album out of it. Photo Story App is a product of Microsoft Garage Project.

The Photo Story App is a full-fledged app that helps in creating videos out of photos. It offers to edit apart from a plethora of transition effects to allow consumers to do the whole thing without ever needing another app. It also allows users to add music to the videos. The app also offers sharing options via email or social media.

Microsoft says that the app uses machine learning and computer vision in the selection process to reduce the risk of including duplicates and low-quality images.

It’s worth pointing out that the same feature was presented by Google in its Photos app at its developer conference I/O in May.

Microsoft said that the app would get better at recognizing and sorting similar photos over time.

In a blog post, Microsoft also noted, “Photo Story’s algorithm isn’t just looking for technical quality, such as whether or not it’s blurry, or the exposure is correct.”

The company claims that the app won’t take much time to complete the tasks as it does all the processing in the device itself reducing the waiting period wasted in uploads and downloads.

Photo Story App supports voice commands via Cortana. For example, saying, “Story from today” will make the app start arranging the photos you look today. The Photo Story app is available for free download from the Windows Store.
