Microsoft HoloLens headset has launched in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand starting at £2,719. According to sources, the company is scheduled to roll out the mixed reality HoloLens headset in 6 new countries. Moreover, the company is attempting to make inroads into trending technology.

Released in the US in January 2015, HoleLens headset automatically projects holographic images onto the real world. As a user, you will be able to interact with surrounding objects via gestures. According to Microsoft, this is called as mixed reality since the headset combines the digital and real world. The headset is powered by Windows Holographic OS under Windows 10.

Microsoft HoloLens headset priced at £2,719 in the UK

If you are located in France, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, you will be able to pre-order the HoloLens headset. However, the gadget will ship by the end of December. While the headset is priced at £2,719 in the UK, the HoloLens gadget is available in the US at $3000.

Microsoft HoloLens headset oriented for enterprise clients

You should note that Microsoft HoloLens mixed reality headset is aimed at enterprise customers. Microsoft is yet to release a consumer-centric release. Some of the leading companies who are using the HoleLens headset are NASA, Thyssenkrupp, and Airbus.

Microsoft HoloLens headset working demonstrated

At a public demo in London, Thyssenkrupp showcased how their engineers are making effective use of HoloLens to repair elevators. An engineer can activate Skype on HoloLens and directly interact with an expert in the office. Microsoft also demonstrated a fake watch brand to reveal how HoleLens could be potentially used in product development.

Meanwhile, Microsoft also established a partnership with Volvo Cars for installation of HoloLens inside their showrooms. This is to help customers to explore vehicles virtually. The Redmond-based company said that there are currently 80 third party individual developer experiences in the HoloLens app store.

Mixed reality market set to touch $162 billion in 2020

According to IDC, the upcoming market for these kinds of virtual and mixed reality gadgets has the potential to be huge. It is expected that the worldwide revenues for the augmented and virtual reality markets will increase to a massive $162 billion in 2020 from the current figure of $5.2 billion.

It remains to be seen when Microsoft HoloLens will be unveiled in India. We expect the headset will cost more than Rs. 2 lakh and will be useful for infrastructure development.
