Maruti-Suzuki Recalls 1,492 Units after finding Problem with the Steering Column

India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki has decided to recall 1,492 vehicles- Ertiga: 306 units, Swift: 592 units, Dzire: 581 units and A-Star: 13 units manufactured between October 19, 2013 and 26th October 2013 to rectify a possible problem with steering column.

“If the steering column is found defective, the company will replace the steering column free of cost. This exercise is limited to vehicle ranges mentioned above and does not pertain to any other vehicle of the company or any of its exports”, MSI said in a statement.

The new steering column has been despatched to dealer workshops.

The last big recall made by the company was in February 2010 when it recalled about one lakh units of its flagship export model ‘A-Star’ to replace a faulty fuel pump part.

Users of Maruti Suzuki cars (Ertiga, Swift, Dzire and A-Star) purchased after Oct. 19, 2013, can check the website www.marutisuzuki.com to ascertain if their car is among the above mentioned vehicles, the company said.

The customer is requested to fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicle invoice / registration documents.

When you first visit the website, you are presented with a message reading – ‘IMPORTANT CUSTOMER INFORMATION’. Just click on the description box to check if your vehicle is amongst the other vehicles that require steering column replacement.

Customers can also visit or contact the nearest Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop for the same. Shares of the company declined Rs 7.3, or 0.44%, after the news broke out.
