MacBook Pro delivers decreased battery life than claimed

MacBook Pro

Apple released MacBook Pro with Touch Bar with great expectations. However, customers who purchased the laptop are reportedly facing decreased battery life. On an average, customers are getting 3 to 6 hours of battery life on a single charge of MacBook Pro. This is in contrast with the assured battery backup of up to 10 hours.

According to MacRumors forum member SRTM, he is working with the newly launched MacBook Pro by connecting to an FHD monitor. He said that the laptop provided only 3 hours of battery life even though he is browsing with Chrome. Under gaming, the laptop yields less battery life.

MacBook Pro gives up to 6.5 hours battery life

Meanwhile, another forum member Aioriya revealed that he is consistently getting between 5 to 6.5 hours of battery life with light usage such as browsing. Hence, the claim by the Cupertino-based giant of 10 hours backup seems to be a marketing ploy.

MacBook Pro provides only less than 4 hours of backup

Recently, a Reddit user with the handle Azr-79 added that his 15-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar received only 3 hours and 45 minutes of battery life on a single charge. These figures are based on normal usage such as mild web browsing, videos in addition to software development.

If you look at another MacRumors forum member Scott, he faced a 5 percentage point drop in the overall battery life within 12 minutes. In the meantime, Reddit user Andrew J disclosed that he got 92 percent battery life after working on less resource consuming tasks for a period of 90 minutes. This includes working with browsing with Safari, Calendar, Messages, file organization, PDF editing in addition to building a financial model in Excel.

AMD Radeon Pro graphics is the main problem area in MacBook Pro?

You should note that problems associated with battery life are not new to Apple products. According to industry analysts, the main reason for the decreased battery life is attributed to the integrated AMD Radeon Pro graphics. In the past, Apple had employed Intel based graphics processor.

However, users who had worked with MacBook Pro said that the Radeon Pro 460 is very efficient for performing small tasks. You can track system resources including fetching of detailed battery information by making effective use of the integrated activity monitor and third-party app coconutBattery.

Moreover, the official website of Apple also provides information about maximizing battery life on the MacBook Pro. Some of the important tips are updating macOS, modifying Energy Saver settings in System Preferences in addition to decreasing the brightness of the display.
