Lightning EarPods error leaves iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users in despair

Apple is working hard to resolve issues with the recently launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus because of problems associated with the lightning Earpods. Apple had confirmed that it had received bug reports from customers pertaining to the lightning port. In a statement issued to the media, Apple had stated that a software update via OTA will be delivered within the next few days.

The problem is that the port disables in-line controls on the connected headset after a period of no playback. Previously, users had reported a bug that caused a loss in mobile connectivity after disabling Airplane Mode on the newly launched handsets. It seems that the excitement at the time of unboxing iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus seems to have lost among customers.

iPhone lightning port error also reflects in third-party headsets

As reported by iPhone 7 users around the world, the error affects not only the bundled Lightning EarPods but also third-party headsets that are connected via the Lightning-to-3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter. The problem occurs when the display of the handset is switched off for five minutes with the headset connected to the port but not playing back audio during that time.

Unable to use Siri during iPhone lightning port error

After that, the audio playback works without any glitches. However, customers will not be able to adjust the volume, activate Siri, or answer calls using the in-line controls on the EarPods or third-party headsets.

Even though there is a problem with the newly launched iPhone 7, the issue is not persistent. It looks like the issue is an on and off stuff. Furthermore, if you face the problem, you can remove and plugin the affected headset.

According to tech analysts, the issue can be resolved using a temporary fix and the core problem is with a software part related to lightning port power-saving features.

Commenting on the development, an Apple representative confirmed to Business Insider that the company has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix via an update. This will resolve all the pending issues. He also disclosed that all leading company issues periodic software updates to fix the bugs.

Apple not the first company to drop headphone port

The Cupertino-based company eliminated the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack in iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Apple is not the first company to drop the jack with LeEco dropping the 3.5mm port in the Le 2 to accommodate CDLA audio port. However, Apple defended the move and said that it required “courage” to make bold decisions.

Elimination of headphone port to improve audio output

The main purpose behind the dropping of the iconic headphone jack is to free up space for newer technologies. Moreover, the lightning port produces enhanced audio output. With dual-camera setup, a Taptic engine for the pressure sensitive physical button and water resistant capabilities, Apple is pushing latest technologies to the market.

Meanwhile, Apple also claims that the new iPhone 7 has the capacity to deliver 14 percent improved battery life, which was made possible with the removal of the headphone port.
